The brief
People in emergency management already know Craig Fugate's name. The newsletter didn't need to introduce him. It needed to sound like him and look like something he'd put his name on.
What I built
The identity first: slate blue, a brush of orange, his name set large enough to do the work. Then a template system so every issue ships in the same frame, and an editorial cadence that keeps it shipping.
I'd done this once already in my own voice. I built Bent Ear's newsletter in Mailchimp from zero to 512 subscribers: the list, the automations, the segmentation, the design, and the copy. Fugate: Unfiltered was the same job in someone else's voice.
What happened
439 subscribers since May 2026. Between the two newsletters, 951 people in public safety and critical infrastructure hear from something I built, on a schedule.
